The curtain
comes down for the summer after another busy year in WSA Performing Arts.
This has
been a busy college year of non-stop activity and exciting opportunities for all of our
students.
Over the 36 weeks we have produced: 12 Drama
Projects including scripted plays,
student written and self-devised performances
exploring the styles of physical comedy, serious issue-based drama,
multi-media
collaborations with the Media Department and staged 3 large scale productions
to public audiences.
In Dance there
have been 17 Projects, a mixture of tutor led and original student choreography
including dances based on movies, physical theatre exploring a wide range of
themes and a contemporary dance showcase running for 3 days to a public
audience. In addition
we were also awarded Runner Up in the Dance Category as part of the Greater Manchester
Colleges Group Performing Arts Competition hosted by Pendleton College.
Our work this
year has also included Charity initiatives of which there have been 3 dance &
drama performances supporting important events such as The
Macmillian Coffee Morning and Children In Need.
For skills
development 3 Workshops from visiting Professional Companies have taken place allowing
the students to meet and work with professionals and gain invaluable knowledge
and skills. In addition we have also had
6 Educational Visits: from backstage tours at The Contact Theatre to watching large
and small scale professional performances
at The Lowry and The Octagon Theatre – a great
opportunity to witness how the industry works at a professional level.
The WSA Performing
Arts Team would like to thank all professional individuals, groups, college
staff and collaborators and friends and families of our students who have
supported us and allowed us to produce so much work this year, we look forward
to working with you again and welcome those groups and individuals who will be
collaborating with us for the
first time next college year. Have a great
summer. See you in September.
The WSA Performing
Arts Team.
